Have you seen the rough at this week's US Open? Oh wow! That looks seriously tough, think we might watch some of the best players in the world made to look like fools this week, but let's wait and see.
This week I am writing to congratulate a number of the players I have worked with after some brilliant results in recent tournaments. Last weekend saw the County Championships take place held at Gog Magog Golf Club. I had a number of players playing in the event and it was great to see four AFG pupils finish in the top 10. Nicolas Smits finished second, Dave Quinney third, Ollie Rust fifth and Ed Dimambro ninth. Some great results on what I have heard was a tough set-up.
Leading on from this I also want to mention Ollie Rust's achievements over the past two weeks. Ollie works with me on the Elite Junior Program and has seriously put in some graft this winter. He came to me 18 months ago playing off six. After all the work he has put in, he is now in the England Set-up and has just been selected for the Men's Six Man team event. But Ollie didn't stop there. In the past 10 days he has shot his first tournament round under par, finishing in the top 10 in the Midland Boys Championship, he finished top five in the County Championships, managed to get a spot in the Under 16 Macgregor Trophy (two years above his age) and has got his handicap cut to 1.5. Proud coach is an understatement. Well done Ollie!
Ollie is not the only Elite Junior that has performed well over the past month, Ella Mason, at 13 years old qualified for the Ladies County Championships, wining her first round match only to be knocked out by the defending champion. In the process Ella has managed to reduce her handicap to 11.7 and his looking forward to a great summer.
I am excited to be planning the development of this Elite Junior Program and more details will be coming soon. If you want something more for your son or daughter, not just a swing lesson but to work with coaches that understand the needs of young people and the performance and learning needs that golf requires then keep your eyes peeled for our Golf Combine programme, where we will be selecting eight juniors to join the program in September.
If you entered our US Open Draw, this has now been drawn and can be viewed by clicking here. There are still a few players left which you can now pop in and purchase before Thursday lunchtime.
