Good Morning all,
I hope you watched the finale of the PGA Tour Season last weekend with Billy Horschel playing some great golf to secure the biggest prize in golf of $10million. With a small 30man field it is great to have a shoot out like that unfortunately Rory couldn't quite finish it off but great golf was played by Justin Rose and Jim Furyk.
Now the Ryder Cup is only a week away! Possibly my favourite sporting event to watch, the buzz and atmosphere of the crowds, the competitive nature of match play and the golf both teams will play is always exciting.
September and October are turning out to be busy months for me also with starting my University course this week, visiting the golf trade show at Harrogate, running 2 ½ marathons along with a number of pupils starting their winter training programs. It is exciting times ahead for me and Girton Golf Club.

Mind the Gap
As a consequence of golfers' and manufacturers search for distance, recently there has been a focus on producing clubs with longer shafts and with less loft. This is why a modern pitching wedge has the length and loft of older 8/9 irons. This is also why there has been an increase in the use of hybrids as a result of the difficulty amateurs have in using the modern long irons.
Previously a pitching and sand wedge would have lofts of approximately 51 and 56 degrees respectively and a golfer would rarely carry anything with more loft. With a pitching wedge now having anything between 43 and 47 degrees of loft, the need for a gap wedge with 50-52 degrees of loft (the old pitching wedge) to fill the gap between the standard 56 degree sand wedge and the new 43-47-degree pitching wedge is vital.
Do you have the correct gapping of your wedges? Do you have to make unnecessary short or manufactured swings to adjust your distances? Do you know how far you carry each of your wedges?
Tim Button PGA Professional, is offering 45 minute 'gapping" sessions at a cost of £15. Available on the following dates for the first twenty customers.
Monday, 29th September

Student of the Week
Matthew Jones has committed to a great Bi Weekly program since June this year and although there hasn't been much time this summer to make huge changes to Matt's technique we have managed to improve his short game, putting and course management to make sure that Matt improved his scores.
With some on course coaching and some hard work Matt has taken his previous best score of 102 when we first meet to now shooting his best score of 85. He is now averaging late 80's early 90's every time he goes out.
He is an image from Matt's first lesson of his technique changes for the winter, we are looking at the Down the line view using the new GASP LAB 4 software. Matt is working on changing his shoulder plane and getting his hands a little higher at the top of the backswing to create more room for him to move and with one of our goals to increase distance and power this winter.
Great job Matt keep up the hard work
