Well that didn't take long to turn from an Indian summer to a very British Winter!
I was lucky enough to finish my 10th challenge of the year last Sunday. A nice little ½ marathon around Peterborough, it also lines up to be the last challenge before the big one in NYC at the beginning of November. We now have a sponsorship form in the Pro Shop for those who would like to donate on the final push of the year, remember the charity is the British Heart Foundation.
So onto some pretty exciting club news, and Head Green Keeper Ian and his staff undertook the redesign and repositioning of the bunkers on the 1st and 7th holes. My personal opinion is that the reshaping and repositioning on the first has made it a very impressive opening hole and one that will be heard of around the county, challenging every level of golfer.
I love to see short Par 4's made accessible to all handicaps and challenge everyone. For those longer hitters the newly positioned bunker nearer the green will really make you think about attacking the green from the tee, and for those shorter hitters it puts the emphasise on a well-placed tee shot and accurate approach.
I look forward to seeing the completion of the work over the next 4-6weeks and think the green staff deserve some great credit for the constant hard work they put into our club.
Last week Ryan and I took some time to visit the Golf Trade Show in Harrogate. Apart from enjoying a couple of beers in the evening, it gives us a chance to look round the latest products and make sure that we can offer all our members and pupils the best possible selection of products and services for next year.
Teaching conference with Dave Pelz
For those of you interested in your famous golf coaches, Ryan and I got a chance to spend the afternoon at the teaching and coaching conference with Phil Mickleson's short game coach Dave Pelz.
Pelz has written such books like his Short Game and Putting Bibles. It was great to listen and get an insight into what one of world's best coaches believe and to get a chance to listen to his views and opinions. Not sure I could afford to $10,000 daily 1-2-1 rate he charges!
Some great pieces of advice, that Ryan and I are currently investigating to bring you some new exciting ways to improve your putting this winter to become a demon on the greens in 2015.
We have some great new line ups for you all next year including Cobra, Nike, Puma Clothing and Shoes, Nike Clothing and Shoes, Wilson, Ashworth and some others.

Girton Golf Club Indoor Studio comes into its own
With the rain and cold coming in and players getting more and more interested in starting their winter and long term coaching plans now, the studio is proving a great assist. I am proud that Girton's reputation is spreading with students travelling from all over the county to see our PGA staff and we were even asked about it by Professionals in Hertfordshire and Surrey. Good news travels fast I guess.
Even though the winter is here and the light is fading we do coach into the evenings, with lessons going on till 9pm.
You can book a 5x 1 hour lesson package with myself for only £209, which will include after lesson emails, use of indoor Flight scope and Gasp video analysis software.
