Pro's Challenge Day set
As the season draws to a close, Ryan and I have managed to find a date that we will be playing our final day challenge event. This event is my last push for the British Heart Foundation as all proceeds will go towards my year for charity total.
Thursday, 20th November will be the date starting from 9am. There will be two competitions up for grabs. Firstly it will see the conclusion for all those people that played against us during the year in accumulative Stableford scores. Remember your holes up/down score is where you start your Stableford round from!
We will also have an 18 hole better ball Stableford score event for those pairs that would like to play in this event but haven't had a chance to play against us yet. I will be donating a couple of trophies for both events along with some prizes and some special on course prizes for the day.
If you would like to sign up to play in the event, please enter in the Pro shop in your pairs ASAP. The draw will be done on Thursday, 13th November. Entry is £6 per pair and there will be some great prizes, plus 1 lucky pair will get to play with Ryan and I. Check out the top 5 leaderboard from the events so far, we only lost 2 matches!
Neil Cooke/Steve Slack - Lost 1 down
Derek Saunders/ Brian Lorimer - Lost 1 Down
Jim Naisbett/Tommy Wilkinson - Draw
Peter Adams/Brian Pettengall - Draw
Mel Kirwan/Bruce Hunter - Draw
Junior Club Championship
Our Junior organiser David Upchurch organised and ran the Junior club championships last Saturday and it was great to see so many juniors playing. A total of 12 juniors turned out, which is great considering only 1 turned up last year. This year's winners were:
Gross Winner- Ollie Rust - Gross 81
Nett Winner - James Black - Nett 67
Club Handicap winner - Louis Alderton - Nett 81
Here is your Club Champion making some great improvements in his swing as part of his winter training programme.
Ollie is working really hard in his weekly sessions with the aim to gain more distance and to hopefully contend in major national hours next year. Ollie has also been selected to as part of the England Regional Boys Squads.
Congratulations to all those that entered, all the parents that supported and walked around and to David for organising. Looks like Girton Golf Club might just be the place to be next year for Junior Golf!
Remember If your son, daughter or grandchildren want to give golf a try, Ryan runs his roll up classes on a Saturday morning! No commitment, just £5 per session!
Focus on Strike not Stroke!
With the winter coming and the greens getting a little slower, there is more and more emphasis on striking your putts well. I see so many players working and worrying about their stroke patterns with their putting stroke that they forget to focus on the strike.
A good strike is key for understanding where the ball goes and to gain good distance control. Try this little tip to give you focus to your putting strike this winter.
Place a plaster on the clubface through the middle of the putter (the brighter the better). Work on trying to strike the plaster and the feel the softness of the protective padding on the plaster. Working on this focus will really helping you gain a good consistent strike and distance control.

Head Greenkeeper Ian has stopped buggies being used on the golf course due to the continuing wet conditions. Those who have a medical certificate and exemption for using buggies are reminded that keeping to the suggested buggy path is a must. For a copy of this please see Vanda
Thanks for your co operation and let's protect our golf course.
Student of the week
Keeping with the Junior theme this week. Jack Thorpe, one of the Girton juniors, has made some great in roads in the last year. Playing off 20, Jack last week shot 8 under his handicap and got cut to 17.5!
At his age this a great result, and it is evident from Jack's swing improvement in the studio that his arms were very arms dominated swing with flipping hands through the ball. Now, it is a much more sequenced move in the right picture, hands leading forward which give Jack a lot more distance and better control. Plus with the Girton junior jumper he is looking smart too!
Wait... there is another...
There has been so many improvements this past week that it is great to see and picking one pupil was tough so I went for 2!
Here is Jacqui Storey showing some awesome change to impact in her lesson on Monday.
So great changes to her spine tilt into the ball, arms much more connected to the body and an overall improvement in ball strike when playing with her irons. Something Jacqui has struggled with.
I am sure after a few of her training drills we will really get this working well.
