Welcome back summer!
I am sure I am not the only one hoping this lovely warm weather continues for as long as possible through November, so that the golf courses can stay dry and you can keep playing. We have an exciting offer and email coming out to you on Friday for you to take advantage of through November so keep your eyes on your inbox on Friday.
I must say, having played a couple of times last week the course is great shape for this time of year and with only 3 green keepers coupled by the limited light, as well as doing maintenance work such as the day to day cutting because of the weather, I personally think they're are doing great. It might also help that I made 5 birdies in 9 holes!
And we have lift off...
This Friday will see me fly off to the Big Apple to complete what might be the biggest and toughest challenge this year. After 4 Half marathons, two 40mile cycle rides, a 10K run, a 100 mile cycle around Cambridge, playing 108 holes in a day and the London Triathlon, I am still thinking it might be tough running 26.2 miles!
It has all been for a great cause and I have raised around £3300 for a great charity like the British Heart Foundation. There is still time as I have one more event left in December to sponsor me. Thank you so much to all those people that have donated, it means a lot. You can sponsor online by clicking here or in the pro Shop.
Voted Club Pro of the Year - I Won
Well this came as a bit of shock this week, getting a phone call late Friday afternoon from National Club Golfer Magazine to say that I had been nominated and had been selected as the winner of the GOLFAS 2014 Club Professional of the year Award.
This was pretty incredible and then to find out that members of the golf club had put me forward means a lot.
There will be an article in next month's magazine which you will find in the clubhouse when it is released. I am proud that many members and the selection committee valued what we do at the golf club. I would like to say what I am able to do is a massive reflection on the other guys in the shop with me, everyone works as hard and we all work together to push Girton Golf club forward and to give its members the best possible service.
Another great accolade for Girton Golf Club and some recognition in a National Magazine will only improve our Profile!
You may be pleased to know that we have some more additions to our offering in the Pro Shop coming before Christmas and into Next year. Through the surveys that have been carried out and talking to our customers there are a number of brands that you seem to want.
We have now added Bridgestone for next year, Golf Buddy range finders, (perfect Christmas gift) and Druh Belts (another great Christmas gift). My only concern is where we put it all!
If you want to enter the Pro's Challenge event on Thursday, 20th November then please come in the Pro Shop to register. It will be Fourball Betterball Stableford with plenty of prizes and two main prizes. Depending on the number of entries we may even do a shotgun start as to be able to do a small presentation after the day.
Currently we have 6 pairs entered, so if you would like to enter then contact us ASAP. It is £6 per pair with all the money going to the British Heart Foundation, I will be donating all the prizes. Ryan and I will also be playing with one lucky pair!
Student of the week
Another great week for so many students getting stuck in to some winter improvement programs. I am already excited about some of the potential for next season.
Here is scratch golfer Scott Armitage starting his winter progress. A good golfer anyway, Scott still works hard on his game through the winter to make sure he can keep improving in the summer. Here you can see the changes we made to his backswing position.
Scott gets his hands very deep and behind his right shoulder (right picture) this gives him very little room, causes him to lose his downswing connection and temp and reduced his power. In the left picture we got Scott's left arm alot higher in the backswing freeing his right elbow. Use some exercise band drills helped Scott really understand the vertical movement.
Scott Gained around 16 yards of Distance with his 6 Iron once we had made these changes!
Huge for a guy that hits it good anyway!
Here is what some of my students have said starting their winter programs
"Really great session, simple, easy to understand small changes added 10mph to my swing speed and added 20 yards of distance!" J. Few
"A great lesson which went very quickly. Alan doesn't over complicate things and conveys great enthusiasm when the instruction begins to work !" C McMullen
"It just gets better & better. Loving the lessons and the confidence it's giving me" Y .Pravett
"Great lesson, couldn't believe I could hit a shot so high and far, helps my confidence. Thank you. Just played medal in very windy conditions today played 2 over my handicap, but still laying 1st in the Clubhouse. Hit the ball well only problem I had was clubbing as I now hit the ball further, will have to do a new yardage chart." B .Coe
If you fancy some of these improvements check us out, all of these students are on long term programs with the view to getting better and staying better! Click here to book a lesson.
