So, the signs of spring are here, temperatures are warming a little we have even witnessed some wearing of short sleeves in recent days. Nights are slowly drawing out and now, with only two weeks until the clocks go forward, which can only mean one thing......something we all love 9 holes after work! I knew that would make you smile.
Also as of 16th March winter rules are now off, so that's another sign the sunshine is coming!
This week I was lucky enough to play at Brocket Hall on Monday in a Pro Am, and I must say the opportunity to compete is really exciting me again. In good but soft conditions around the Palmerston course, I felt like the golfer I knew I can be, having worked really hard with a new coach this Winter to change my swing pattern, something that has been tough and some late nights - till 11pm in the studio on my own practising is starting the pay off. With around 12 events to represent the club this year between your professional staff we should be up there.
After a good start I made two bad swings which cost me a double and triple bogey, but with six birdies I managed to record a score of +1. Not bad on a long tree lined course, and first time with my new sticks and new movements. Bring on the Season!
With the Masters coming in four weeks time there is lots of golfing activity for your Professional staff to get into golfing fever, from looking at new equipment, to encouraging you to play your first or second medal, to helping you improve some of the weaker parts of your game. Anything we can do to help please make us your first port of call, we are here to assist your golfing experience in the best way we can so click here to get in touch.
Sponsored Medal by Wilson Staff
We have collaborated with Wilson Golf to sponsor the Medal this coming Saturday. We have both a ladies and gents medal on Saturday and the first 100 across both medals (not each) will receive a FREE 2 Ball Wilson DX2 back on entry into the medal in the pro shop. I am happy to be able to offer and support this medal to encourage as many of you as possible to play, and remember it is Stableford so a good time to get out and dust the competitive cobwebs off!

The French Connection
Last week saw Ryan & Dean put on a golf clinic for over 60, yes 60, French children at once! This was always going to be a challenging as neither (should say.......) parle beaucoup francais (speak much French)! The kids had an overview of how the game is played and also had a go at chipping, putting & full swing. This was all carried out with the help of two translators a difficult task for the boys I'm sure you would agree! The School was very complimentary about the Golf Club and its facilities and most of all its open approach to engage with young people.
Click here to see Dean's weekly video, this week Dean gives his tips on how to improve your chipping!
This week I have looked at and test the new Fly Z XL range from Cobra. This club is definitely not a good choice for me! The club is designed for players that really struggle with a slice ( I have been known to hook). The slight offset helps players who struggle to get driver and fairway woods in the air. What I would say is that when I struck it well the sound and feel was incredible and the look is very clean and sharp.
Cobra have put together a great little range for those of who with slower swing speed, senior golfers and the ladies range to match (I didn't test the ladies head). If you want to have a go and gain some more yardage and hit some more fairways this year check this range out and with the Driver priced at £189 this an incredible product to come and test with us.
Playing out of a divot - If your ball is in a divot, and it happens to us all, it is even more imperative than normal to hit the ball with a descending blow. To assist you in doing this, it will help to put the ball a little further back in your stance, move your weight and hands a little more forward and grip down on club for more control. The ball will come out lower than normal and will run out. Club selection should take this into account, as should the ground conditions.
Alan's Student of the Week
Captain Spencer Bowyer joined me in the studio last week and made some awesome changes, leading by example this year getting his game in shape, we did some great work to restore some power and strike control.
As you can see the picture shows Spencer's improvement in turn and lower body control improving his spine tilt in the backswing! Great work Captain!
